Kokeshi ended 2010 on a high note after the kudos for Kokeshi 004’s Lung Remix 12”, with the Kryptic Minds Remix of Lung’s ‘Afterlife’ track gaining support from Skream to Mary Anne Hobbs as well as winning Dubstep Forum’s ‘Best Remix’ of 2010. The tune landed in K-Mag’s Top 10 remixes (various genres) , clearly a hit with the music press. The black & white coloured vinyl quickly sold out and had a limited repressing for those who missed out the first time around. Ministry of Sound and Get Darker also copped the tune for their 2 massive dubstep compilations, further cementing Kokeshi’s position amongst heavy hitters in the scene, despite the moody dreamy aesthetic to the music and the label’s launch just over a 18 months ago.
Kicking off 2011 is a teaser for Irrelevant’s first album due out on Kokeshi later this year, which offers a 12” featuring his catchy ‘Better Off in Me’ tune featuring Brad Sucks, the Canadian vocalist / producer who’s raw style and moody lyrics fit perfectly amongst Irrelevant’s clocking future garage beats and dark emo vibes. See if you can get the tune out of your head. We can’t !
Choosing the king of melancholia , Calibre, to remix only seemed appropriate . The brief was only to keep his remix around the same tempo as the original. The result is a great compliment to the original, and in turn is unlike anything Calibre has done before, at around the 130 to 140 bpm tempo. Support from Appleblim, Kito, Flight to name a few .
